" History Of Emil-Lenes Sirloin House ! "
Well, you will be surprised to
know that it was first opened by
Frankie Emmerling as Emmerling's Sirloin House in 1958
That's right - 1958! Frankie first started as a
cook in the military - No not the Confederate Military -
and then worked with Jay's stepfather at the
Cosmopolitan Hotel in Denver. Frankie, with his
eccentric behavior, was known as a notorious gambler and
party monster which became the basis for many a story at
the Sirloin House.
He first started the idea of the
Great Stories, Great Food and Outstanding
Service in the unique restaurant atmosphere, where fun
and fantastic food were always the goal.
After hearing about Crazy Frankie
and the best steaks in town, people came from all over
the state of Colorado to see what this place was all
about. When you first turn and hit the bumpy road , you
know you are in the right place. Ugly Sign - Gravel Road
and a Covered Wagon! You Are There!
When you pulled in to the parking lot, you would see
everything from a
Ferrari to a VW Bus, from a Tuxedo clad gentleman to a
guy with construction clothes, it didn't matter, it was
the place to be in Denver.
One of the original staff was Emil (Joe) Kuchar who was
a jack of all trades, bartending, cooking and waiting
tables. He started an electrical company after a few
years and left the restaurant business behind, only to
return later. During the time that Emil was gone, Frank
hired a waitress named Charlene and that was all she
wrote. Charlene and Emil soon started dating and the
future was set.
When Frankie became tired of the restaurant business he
sold the place to Emil and Charlene in 1972. They then
decided that renaming the restaurant would be the best
course of action. So after many hours (about 15 minutes
actually) they combined their names and came up with the
now famous Emil-Lene's. That's where Jay and
Karen entered the picture and started working
there in 1972. After learning the business through
watching and working, we took over in 1995 after
Charlene became ill and have continued the fantastic
Emil-Lene's tradition to this very day!
And That's the REAL STORY
But wait - There's more! Check these little tidbits out
